I had to make a rather painful decision tonight. Not painful in that I really had to think about it for more than a jiffy, and I don't really think that I really had that much of an option anyway, but still..
( whine whine whine )
I think I made the right decision - I'm not trying to sound like people have an obligation towards me, or that I have gained the right to veto a decision after it has been made during a meeting which I should have attended, but I do have my own blood pressure to think of. It's too high as it is already. Either way, I can't help but feeling rejected, and can't deny the feeling that I somehow "lost".
Bah.
I apologise for whining.

In no specific order:
- Some people actually do use the YYMMDD date format
- Apparently the general assembly of my homeowners association (of which I'm a board member, no less) was yesterday. On 090708. Just like it said it would be.
I'll now go stand in the corner and wear the fools hat. Bah.

When I got a place to call my own, I vowed to never ever ever have any dealings with UPC (the local cable company). Since I live in an apartment complex, and since I'm not allowed to have a satellite dish on my balcony, I had no alternative but to take their cable TV service, though. But I promised myself that I wouldn't use their internet nor their phone services. Ever.
Fast forward more than 3.5 years. I'm not overly happy with my ADSL, and UPC has a pretty decent offering - More bandwidth for less money, with a telephone plan that would cost significantly less per minute, and I'd even get a DVR to boot. I was actually seriously considering switching, the main reason that I hadn't done so last weekend was a viral TV ad hinting at "something happening" in this area on wednesday.
I must have a guardian angel, reminding me why I didn't want to have UPC - The TV is dead, Jim - service page claims there are no incidents, and urges me to call a non-toll-free service number which I know will just put me on hold for at last half an hour before telling me that, sorry, they're closed for today and that I should call back tomorrow..
OK. I got the hint. Can I watch Bones now? Kthanksbye

So, you decide to go back to #depressed on DALnet, mostly for old times sake, and you end up being kick-banned in the middle of the night. Some things never change, I suppose.
It'd be cool if I knew exactly *why* I got banned; I suppose there'd be some channel activity before that, but irssi helpfully auto-closed the window. Figures.

You go to the dentist, because you've got the mother of all tootaches that makes you want to jump off a (nonexistant) cliff just to get rid of it, and he tells you that, actually, your teeth are just fine, and that even yanking them all out wouldn't help a thing, and that what you're suffering from is most probably Myofascial pain syndrome in the jaw. And that there's not an awful lot to do about it.
Bah.

So, yes, I was stupid. Last tuesday, I manage to cut myself severely (And accidentally at that, too). I wanted to watch a TV show, yet my kitchen needed cleaning, so I rushed things. I probably rushed things just a little bit too much, in retrospect. I have this ceramic stove, and I needed to clean it using a scraping knife and some cleaner fluid. I obviously missed a spot while scraping, so I redid it, and since I was in a hurry I didn't bother to put it down.
The end result was a very long, deep cut, that didn't look good at all. So I called the hospital, and went in to be properly sewed back together. Now, two days later, I could take the bandage off (which was starting to look rather grubby).
Looks scary (Behind a linkie to protect those-who-are-even-more-innocent-than-me. Not that there are any, of course).
Brr. I hope that the rather unhealthy colour is due to the iodine tincture that they applied rather graciously - I'm a bit reluctant with water right now. The good thing is that it doesn't hurt anymore. At least, I hope that's a good thing, too.
Stitches (All six of them) are scheduled to go out next friday or so. They didn't even use an orange wire. The bastards.

Well, it's official now. My mortgage has been approved, everything is taken care of. The official transaction will take place tuesday next week, at 10 am. This is 11 days after the planned date of transfer, which means that I'll have to cough up 225 Euro interest. All of this because some silly financial institute made a goofup and had to think way too long to figure out that they wanted to charge me with an additional 3 euro per month for the next 30 years.
So the price of being overweight can be calculated exactly now: 30 * 12 * 3 + 225 = 1305 Euro.
Yum.

Because my internets at home has been dead for about a week now, and since this greatly impairs me being able to talk to mubeimmik and others, I decided to go to my parents house, even though they're not at home. (They're being touristical in Egypt).
And guess what? NO INTERNET. It would seem that their router has ceased to be. Dead in the water. Doesn't even bother to flash even a single LED. And because their ISP (Chello) binds to a specific MACaddress, getting their Windows desktop to work is a bit of an issue. It would help if I could figure out the MACaddress of the router, but with it being rather dead, it's not going to work. But luckily my dad has all the important data regarding his internet connection written down.
So I now know that the box of the cable modem said "QTY: 1" on the outside. I also know their old IP address. And I know the serial number of their old cable modem. All very important and relevant information if you want to revive an internet connection, I tell you. You really need it, unlike trivial and unimportant stuff like "What is the username and password to the self-help service that you need to access to modify the associated MAC addres".
GRAH
Luckily, the neighbour accross street still has his access point wide open, so I at least have *SOME* connectivity, even though it's spotty at best.
In other news, my mortgage developed a serious problem, due to the life insurance company needing more time - this after sitting on their lazy arses for 4 weeks doing nothing. As a result, I will not have a mortgage covering next friday - when the transfer was supposed to take place. I hope I'll get it all figured out, and that I can convince the selling party to move the transfer for a week. Otherwise, I'll have a serious problem: I'll be breaking the selling contract, which means that I'll have to pay 10% of the transfer sum plus expenses. This amounts to 13.000 euro + expenses (Which are another 2.000 euro).
So no, I'm not a happy bunny at all.
